Ask new business administrator Katie Upton what she likes about her new role at CBVC Vehicle Management and the answer is immediate – it’s the fast pace, the new challenges and the fact that every day is different!
Working on CBVC’s online personal leasing portal, Leasing Gorilla, which launched last September, Katie has just passed her three month probationary period to become a fully-fledged and full-time employee.
But, although the new girl, she already has a wealth of experience in the car sales arena behind her, having previously worked for Lookers’ used car supermarket business in Burton-on-Trent for around 13 years, rising to the position of sales manager before her role was made redundant.
What Katie did next was to apply for a vacant position at CBVC Vehicle Management who were looking for a new business administrator on the new Leasing Gorilla side of the operation, reporting into line manager Chris Jennings.
The Leasing Gorilla operation was launched to separate the CBVC Vehicle Management brand from the personal contract hire side of the business, with the name ‘Leasing Gorilla’ selected because there is ‘no monkey business, just great deals’.
More than nine months later, and Leasing Gorilla offers a wide array of new cars and vans available on either personal leasing or business contract hire deals at very competitive prices.
The website also carries a cash or car calculator, in conjunction with CBVC, for those needing to make sense of the cash or company car conundrum, as well providing access to a wide range of vehicle funders including manufacturers’ own schemes.
As new business administrator for Leasing Gorilla, Katie handles everything from new car orders to arranging delivery for customers.
“I’ve started at the bottom and worked my way to the top once before, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t do it again,” she says bullishly.
“I love everything about this job. The fact that no two days are alike and that there is a constant workflow due to the number of new vehicle orders we handle.”
Katie’s day starts with answering emails, some from dealers verifying an order, others from customers thanking her for the service they have received. She then loads all new orders onto the Fleetwave inhouse fleet management system and ensures they are compliant with guidelines of the Financial Conduct Authority.
Once the order has been placed, Katie also sets up the finance documents for the customer, be it a personal leasing contract or business contract hire. She also contacts the dealers, and Leasing Gorilla works with over 50 dealer partners, to set up delivery of the vehicle.
However it is the customer-facing aspect of the business, going back to her Lookers’ days, she loves the most.
“I love working with customers. I always have and it’s in my blood – that and making sure they have a great experience. We pride ourselves on our customer service and are always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the customer has great service.“
And there is little doubt that customers appreciate the effort. In a testimonial, one happy customer said: “Chris and Katie both went out of their way to help me get into the car I wanted as quickly as possible. Happy with the price and the excellent customer service and would not hesitate to come back to you in the future.”
Katie also fully appreciates the support, back-up and depth of knowledge of the team of people around her.
“I work with a fantastic team of people who are very focused on getting the job done. If I need any help or support it is always readily given, and they will help on fleet admin or filling in my knowledge gaps,” she says.
“My new job is action-packed, it’s full-on and very enjoyable. I love it,” adds Katie.
When not working, Katie is a busy Mum to her one year old daughter, Darcie, which as you might imagine is demanding and time-consuming in its own right.
”However, I’ve got great family support around me which really helps. Darcie and I love spending time together, going out for picnics or just out and about and it’s fair to say she keeps me just as busy as my day job,” says Katie.
