BYD Atto 3: bigger battery, more range

There’s a bit more with BYD this month. Quite a bit more actually. BYD has updated the Atto 3  with a significantly larger battery, increasing its official driving range and improving charging performance.

The revised Atto 3 Evo model uses a 74.8 kWh battery, replacing the previous 60.5 kWh pack. As a result, WLTP range increases from 260 miles to around 316 miles, a gain of roughly 56 miles.

The new battery also moves the vehicle onto an 800-volt electrical architecture, replacing the previous 400-volt system. That change allows faster rapid charging, with peak DC charging increasing to around 220 kW and a 10 to 80 percent charge taking roughly 25 minutes under ideal conditions.

Alongside the battery upgrade, the Atto 3 receives a new rear-mounted electric motor producing around 230 kW, improving performance while maintaining efficiency. The standard model now reaches 0 to 62 mph in around 5.5 seconds, compared with 7.3 seconds previously.

For fleet operators the additional range may reduce mid-day charging stops for higher mileage drivers. A WLTP figure above 300 miles means many company car users should be able to complete typical daily mileage without needing charging during the working day.

Running costs remain aligned with other fully electric company cars. As a zero-emission vehicle the Atto 3 qualifies in the 4% Benefit in Kind tax band for tax year 2026/27, making it attractive for salary sacrifice schemes and company car drivers compared with petrol or hybrid alternatives.
