CBVC Vehicle Management’s hugely popular annual golf day was voted a resounding success by both competitors and organisers – and plans are already well advanced for next year’s event.

The 2019 CBVC Masters, now in its fifth year, was held for the first time at the exclusive JCB Golf and Country Club at Rocester, Staffordshire, which boasts an imposing and challenging 7,300-yard 18-hole golf course.

The course was the brainchild of Lord Bamford, chairman of the iconic construction and agricultural equipment manufacturer, who commissioned internationally renowned designer Robin Hiseman of European Golf Design to create a stunning and contemporary layout in beautiful rural Staffordshire.

And the competitors were quickly able to confirm that the course was both beautifully designed and very challenging!

With a record entry of 52 customers and suppliers participating in both team and individual events, the Masters also had the added spice of a number of golfing challenges, including a nearest the pin prize at the tricky ninth hole, and an extreme nearest the pin at the stunning 270-yard par three 17th– virtually all of it over water.

This year’s CBVC Masters’ Champion with an outstanding score of 43 Stableford points was Ian Middleton, UK chairman of Gestamp Tallent, an international group dedicated to the design, development and manufacture of metal automotive components.

width=Playing off a handicap of 13, Ian left the field trailing in his wake to claim the Masters Trophy and the prize of a four-ball day out at Woburn Golf and Country Club, sponsored by daily rental specialists, Europcar.

To appease the rest of the field, in his winner’s speech Ian was careful to point out that in the four previous years he had played in the CBVC Masters, he had not once had need to open the doors to his trophy cabinet!

In joint second place were Terry Pedley of Advanced Engineering and Dean Hanford, corporate manager for Inchcape Group, who both scored 35 points.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Ian Middleton’s stellar performance ensured victory in the team championships for his four-ball team, which also included colleague Alan Crump of Gestamp Tallent, and Mark Cooper and Borja de Lecea of Steel & Alloy Processing.

They cruised to 88 points for a comfortable win and claimed a prize of a four-ball day out at the London Club, sponsored by Arden BMW.

Runners-up in the team event on 82 Stableford points were Tom Gowman and Luke Tyce, both from the Norse Group, David McAneny of Barons BMW and CBVC’s own Chris Jennings, who were rewarded for their efforts with bottles of champagne from sponsor, RB Associates.

The winner of the extremely tricky next to the pin prize on the 17thhole was Tosh Crompton of Vanarama, who took home a number of BMW-themed prizes from Barons BMW.

And this year’s Masters champion, Ian Middleton, also claimed the prize for the shot nearest to the pin on the ninth hole, for which he received a series of Mercedes-Benz prizes from Inchcape Mercedes.

width=The longest drive competition on the Trackman golf simulator yielded a fabulous 314-yard drive from Chris Upson while the straightest drive competition was won by Stephen Rochester.

The organisers would also like to thank Ady Wheatcroft of Ace Golf Challenge for keeping the competitors entertained with his wide range of on-course trick shots.

The golf day was followed by a prize-giving evening and a relaxed BBQ afterwards – and just a few liquid refreshments!

CBVC Finance Director, Jennie Chisholm, who organised the event, said that feedback from competitors had been extremely positive.

“So much so that we have already booked the fabulous JCB course again for next year,” she said. “We see this as our opportunity to give something back to our loyal customers and suppliers and were delighted by the record turn-out this year,” she added.
