Chinese electric car manufacturer Aion will launch in the UK next year with its new V electric SUV. Backed by Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) and brought to Britain through a joint venture with distributor Jameel Motors, Aion will introduce the V SUV in spring 2026 as the first of several models planned for the UK.
The Aion V is a 4.6-metre electric SUV targeting the core C-segment of family-sized cars, such as the Volkswagen Golf. Early data suggests it will offer a range of 317 miles on the WLTP cycle from a 75 kWh battery, putting it alongside established rivals on distance between charges.
Fast-charging capability is a key feature, with the V able to take 180 kW DC, allowing a 10–80 percent top-up in a claimed 24 minutes on a suitably powerful charger. At a starting price expected to sit in the mid-£30,000s, the V will position itself as a value-focused alternative to competitors such as the Smart #5 and XPeng G6 while matching many of their core technical features.
Technical details of the V show a front-wheel drive layout using a 197 bhp electric motor capable of accelerating the SUV from 0–62 mph in 7.7 seconds. In China, the V is also offered with a range-extender drivetrain using a 1.5-litre engine to charge the battery, and the company says it will continue assessing whether this configuration is appropriate for European markets.
Practicality and interior space are central to the V’s positioning. The cabin offers generous rear legroom and good headroom beneath a standard panoramic roof. And should you feel the need for some shut-eye on a journey, the front seats can also be folded flat to create a bed-like layout for longer journeys or overnight stops. A dual-level boot provides 510 litres of luggage capacity, with further underfloor storage.
Standard equipment is expected to include a large central touchscreen, Android and Apple connectivity, 64-colour ambient lighting, vegan leather-style upholstery and 19-inch alloy wheels. An optional Exec Pack will add massage seats, a cooled centre console and full leather trim.
But Aion doesn’t plan to stop at the V. Following the SUV’s launch, Aion will debut the UT hatchback, with further models planned across multiple segments. The brand expects to introduce six vehicles by 2028 as it builds a full UK line-up.
Aion is currently appointing UK retail partners ahead of the brand’s full rollout, with plans to establish a dealer network before first deliveries begin, with competitive pricing, long range and fast-charging capability, the new V SUV arrives at a time of growing interest in Chinese-built EVs, with Chinese brands taking 13% of the UK market in October 2025.
The arrival of Aion’s V SUV marks another step in the increasing expansion of Chinese EV manufacturers into the UK. Keep an eye on our website, as soon as we have pricing confirmed, we’ll be offering leasing rentals on the new Aion V.
