What’s potentially in store for your fleet?
The polls predicted a Labour win but not by such a crushing margin of seats, in what looks like a historic win for Sir Keir Starmer. The Tories have seen over 40 cabinet and junior ministers lose their seats, while the Liberal Democrats have seen a resurgence, increasing their total MP’s to over 70 for the first time in a decade.
Please see below for the main bullet points from the Labour manifesto in relation to Zero Emission Electric vehicles, courtesy of the BVRLA, for a full breakdown of the zero-emission road transport relevant policies cited in their respective manifestos (our thanks to the BVRLA):
Labour Party
- Tackle soaring costs of car insurance
- Accelerate the roll of charge points
- Restore the phase-out date of 2030 for new cars with internal combustion engines
- Support buyers of second-hand electric cars by standardising the information supplied on the condition of batteries

Conclusion
Labour now has a one of the largest parliamentary majorities since 1900, but we are sceptical on how they propose tackling soaring insurance costs. Labour has vowed to reintroduce the ban on the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) cars from 2030, no mention is made about Electric vans and their manifesto promises to rebuild Britain and modernise the transport infrastructure.
“Potholes cratering our roads are a visible sign of the decline after 14 years of Conservative rule”.
Labour pledges to fix 1m potholes over the next parliament by deferring the building of the A27 bypass, we are sceptical that is a sufficient saving to pay for so many.
Whilst support will be made available for the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) by accelerating the roll out of charge points and supporting buyers of second-hand electric cars by standardising the information supplied on the condition of batteries, no mention has been made of restoring plug-in-car grants.
Many promises and now they have the mandate to deliver. Thanks to our trade body the BVRLA BVRLA Homepage for some of the content.
