Generally, vehicle supply continues to be improving, with most factory orders now around 16-20 weeks, down significantly from this time last year. There are the general usual suspects where you might have to wait longer for factory orders, however these are largely bespoke requirements and no surprise to the end user.
Commercial supply again is also largely improving, however again bespoke requirements do tend to take a while longer and some manufacturers are facelifting their models and closing the order banks (i.e., VW Transporter is not available for factory order) so finding stock can be more challenging.
Whilst it was to be expected, we were all saddened to see the news that EV manufacturer Fisker has filed for bankruptcy. It has been no secret that Fisker had been desperately trying to raise capital over the recent months and after it was publicly announced that they had failed to secure an investment from another OEM (believed to be Nissan), bankruptcy seemed to be the only likely scenario.
One to watch in the fleet sector moving forward is Suzuki. Dale Wyatt, director of automobile at Suzuki GB, has acknowledged that traditionally Suzuki has been a retail brand, but with their current vehicle range and future planned range, they see a pivot towards fleet. Suzuki are also planning on launching their first full EV next year, the eVX, in a move designed to become more appealing to the fleet sector.
The Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate is looming ever more present within manufacturers offerings. Whilst there are no outright mandated requirements for customers to take EV’s alongside their traditional ICE/PHEV purchases, manufacturers are indicating that they could look at mandating this to avoid missing the targets outlined in the ZEV Mandate.
