Lockdown Britain has been a time for reflection and reconsideration. For managers and directors there has been the requirement to consider how the business will function once staff return to work. Or, indeed, if some can continue to work from home rather than the office.
What will the new business look like? What are the operational requirements? How much have these changed from pre-coronavirus to post-coronavirus?
Those same operational requirements also need to be directed at your fleet. Because if the requirements of your business have changed, so will the requirements of your fleet. In a post-lockdown world, is your fleet still fit for purpose?
COVID-19 and the changed dynamics of your fleet
Unless you are a key worker, in lockdown Britain we have been working remotely at home. If staff continue to work remotely, do they still need company cars still? If yes, then the mileage on their contract will need to be renegotiated as the requirement to commute to and from work is no longer a necessity.
The same questions need to be asked of your field staff. Do you need them to travel endlessly every day on client visits, or could some of that now be replaced by video conferencing? If video conferencing has worked during lockdown, there’s a real opportunity to continue that in some form when we transition to the ‘new normal’.
Again this will have an impact on your mileage requirements as well as any associated maintenance costs. It’s important that your vehicle fleet realises the potential for savings here.
But perhaps it becomes more fundamental than that. What type of cars are required now? Could your fleet pivot to zero emission vehicles. Your staff could then benefit from zero company car taxation this year as well as the associated reduction in NIC payments and whole life cost savings for your business.
Fleet management for your company cars
Expert fleet management can assist your business in all these areas by reassessing your company car policy and managing the fleet for greater operational savings, as well as providing access to a variety of funding options for your vehicles.
More importantly, professional management of your fleet frees up the company directors to focus on growing the business and building new revenue streams as business Britain climbs out of lockdown.
