CBVC Vehicle Management is responding to the demand from an increasing number of vehicle fleets to help decarbonise their company cars.
The Staffordshire-based fleet management and leasing firm says it has seen a 48% upturn in the number of fleets requesting a switch to electric cars.
One such company is the rental and mobility business Europcar Mobility Group UK, which has engaged CBVC Vehicle Management to manage down the carbon footprint of its own company car fleet.
Managing Director of CBVC Vehicle Management, Mike Manners, commented:
The drivers behind fleet electrification are many but they all share a desire to lower carbon along with the company’s environmental impact – perhaps as part of a wider Environmental, Social and Governance agenda; some because they see it’s the future; and others to capture the many cost savings available to both the business and particularly the driver in significantly reduced benefit in kind tax. The greatly reduced tax take offers drivers a welcome increase in disposable income while the rising cost of living puts such pressure on domestic budgets.
To support the move to a lower carbon fleet, CBVC Vehicle Management works closely with its customers to identify which drivers can switch first, and how to transfer drivers who may not have access to home chargers. To make the switching process easy, CBVC Vehicle Management uses market-leading technology incorporating video review and trade-up options.
Mike Manner adds:
One of the most important elements to understand in the switch to electric vehicles is the actual cost of the vehicles, rather than the headline price. For this we use Whole Life Cost calculators which provide a proper overview of a vehicle’s actual cost during its period of use.
For fleets that have always used monthly rental rates to establish vehicle allocation, the change to whole life costs will require a new approach to vehicle choice lists, says Mike. However, these adaptations are critical to fleet decarbonisation.
Mike goes on to say:
It’s really important for us to be supporting the carbon reducing agenda and to help our customers switch to a greener fleet. With known tax rates, EVs are a real win-win. By using whole life costs, we can produce driver vehicle lists benefiting both the business and their company car drivers. I’m pleased to say that early figures from just one customer are showing a 90% EV take-up rate.
New salary sacrifice scheme allows broader take up of zero emission vehicles
For those businesses that want to widen the provision of electric cars to all staff members, then CBVC Vehicle Management has launched a brand new salary sacrifice scheme, which gives employees the opportunity to drive electric cars at a very competitive monthly rate thanks to tax and National Insurance savings.
Partnership with LV= Electrix
Demonstrating the commitment of CBVC Vehicle Management to assist fleet decarbonisation is the choice by insurance giant LV= for CBVC Vehicle Management to provide the leasing platform for the company’s new Electrix launch.
Electrix offers both consumers and businesses a one-stop shop to electric cars, from leasing a new vehicle, to applying for a home charger and, of course, electric vehicle insurance. Mike adds:
Being at the forefront of the market and investing in the latest technology is critical to us to provide the level of trusted fleet management advice that customers expect. So it’s a real honour that LV= recognises our expertise and capabilities in helping decarbonise the automotive sector.
Meanwhile, demand for electric vehicles continues to grow. Industry body SMMT reported 12,243 pure electric new registrations in July – double the diesel registrations – and up nearly 10% on July 2021 in a month where car supply remained restricted. Year-to-date figures also show a surge of 50% against the same period last year.
